... The only difference is, unlike many other cities, in Arcadia you don't see the cardboard shacks constructed in the overgrown, mosquito infested areas scattered around the city.
DeSoto County is the poorest county in the state of Florida. It has a annual median household income of $35,438; this is $20,000 lower than the average annual median household income for the entire state.
Currently there is no overnight shelter for people living on the street. Everyday we feed, and clothe these individuals and families. Many live under vacant houses, in cars, tents along the Peace River, anywhere they can find shelter for the night. The only difference is, unlike many other cities, in Arcadia you don't see the cardboard shacks constructed in the overgrown, mosquito infested areas scattered around the city. We at the Center For The Needy have the privilege of getting to know their names, and their stories.
It is our vision, to provide an overnight shelter for the homeless. We are currently researching successful models in other cities. One policy, on which we will not waver, is that it must be privately funded. Therefore, we have set up a "Shelter" fund to eventually turn our dream into reality.
Please contact us if you would like to donate to this special project. We accept prayers, praises, "way to go's", and money.
